Privacy Policy for Not Just a Hobby

Not Just a Hobby LLC (“Not Just a Hobby,” “NJH,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides a mobile application for tracking hobbies, saving progress and memories, connecting with friends, and related account services.
Information We Collect
Depending on how you use NJH, we may collect:
Account and profile information, such as your name, username, profile information, email address if provided, and account identifiers.
Phone number, used for secure sign-in, account identity, phone-based invitations, and optional friend discovery.
Contact information from your device, if you choose to enable contact-based friend discovery.
Hobby and user-created content, including hobbies, session logs, notes, status text, tools, photos, videos, voice-derived text, and other information you choose to add.
Session information, such as dates, moods, manually entered locations, people associated with a session, and other session details.
Device and notification information, such as installation identifiers and push notification tokens used to operate the app and deliver notifications.
Purchase and subscription information, such as your NJH Plus entitlement, subscription product, and purchase status. Payment card and bank information are processed by Apple and are not provided to NJH.
Usage information, such as interactions with app features and screens, to understand how NJH is used and improve the product.
Diagnostic information, such as crashes, errors, app version, device type, operating system information, and related technical data used to maintain reliability.
NJH does not currently collect precise or coarse device geolocation automatically. If you manually add a place or location to a session, that information is treated as user-created content.
How We Use Your Information
We use information to:
Create, authenticate, and maintain your account.
Send one-time SMS verification codes for secure sign-in.
Provide hobby tracking, session logging, media storage, social, invitation, and friend-discovery features.
Save and display the content you choose to add.
Deliver reminders, friend activity, invitations, and other push notifications.
Process and verify NJH Plus subscription status.
Provide optional voice and text assistance for adding sessions.
Understand product usage and improve NJH.
Diagnose crashes and technical problems.
Maintain security, prevent abuse, and protect the service and its users.
Comply with applicable legal obligations.
SMS and Phone Number Use
If you provide your phone number, we use it for secure account access and related app functionality.
We may send one-time SMS messages for account verification and secure sign-in. We do not use SMS for promotional marketing messages.
Message frequency varies based on your use of the app. Message and data rates may apply.
Your phone number may also be used to help connect invitations and, where you choose to use contact discovery, determine whether people you know are already using NJH.
Contacts and Friend Discovery
If you allow contact-based friend discovery, NJH uploads phone numbers from the contacts you permit it to access to NJH’s server to find matching NJH accounts. Contact names and labels are not uploaded for matching.
When you invite an individual contact, NJH sends the selected phone number to its server to check for an existing account. If you save a phone invitation, NJH stores the selected name and phone number so the recipient can claim the invitation later.
NJH asks for your permission before uploading this information. Contact access is optional. You can decline or revoke contact access in your device settings and continue using NJH without contact-based friend discovery.
Voice and Text Assistance
NJH offers an optional feature that helps turn your description into structured session details. When you use Describe your session, NJH sends the text you type— or the transcript created when you use Talk — together with your selected hobby to Anthropic. Anthropic processes this information to suggest details such as duration, mood, notes, status, location, and what you might do next. NJH does not send raw voice recordings to Anthropic.
NJH does not store your original text or transcript. Only the session details you choose to apply and save are kept in NJH.
Anthropic states that commercial API inputs and outputs are not used to train its models by default. Under Anthropic’s standard API retention policy, Anthropic may retain API inputs and outputs for up to 30 days before automatically deleting them, except where longer retention is required for safety or legal reasons.
This feature is optional. NJH asks for your permission before sending any text to Anthropic. You can decline and enter your session details manually. You can also withdraw permission at any time under Settings → Privacy → Session text processing.
Import History
Import History can optionally help organize past activities into draft sessions. With your permission, NJH sends your typed or transcribed narration, photo dates, photo groupings, and selected hobby to Anthropic to suggest session details. Photos, videos, and voice recordings are not sent to Anthropic.
NJH does not retain your original narration or transcript. It retains generated session details and photo references so you can review or resume your import. When you choose to save sessions, selected media is uploaded to NJH as part of those sessions.
Under Anthropic’s standard API policy, submitted information and generated results are normally deleted within 30 days, with exceptions including longer retention for safety enforcement or legal requirements.
You can use “Skip talking — just use dates” without sending information to Anthropic. You can change your text-processing permissions in Settings → Privacy.
Sharing and Social Features
NJH includes social features that allow you to connect with friends and share hobby activity.
Depending on the feature and your settings, information such as your profile, hobbies, sessions, photos, notes, and activity may be visible to other NJH users you are connected with or otherwise choose to share with.
You should only upload or share content that you are comfortable making available through the relevant social feature.
Service Providers
We use third-party service providers to operate NJH. These providers may process information on our behalf for purposes such as:
Authentication, databases, and backend infrastructure.
Cloud storage and media processing.
SMS delivery.
Push notifications.
Analytics and crash reporting.
Subscription and purchase management.
Speech recognition.
Automated language processing.
Providers used by NJH may include services such as Supabase, Apple, RevenueCat, Firebase, Anthropic, and other infrastructure providers.
We do not sell your personal information.
We do not use your information for third-party advertising or cross-app advertising tracking.
We require third parties that receive personal information from NJH to provide the same or an equivalent level of protection as described in this Privacy Policy and required by Apple’s App Review Guidelines. We establish these obligations through applicable contractual terms, including service-provider terms and data-processing agreements.
Optional Analytics and Crash Diagnostics
With your permission, NJH uses Google Firebase to collect product analytics and crash diagnostics to understand feature usage and improve reliability. This can include app interactions, app and device information, and technical error reports.
NJH filters its diagnostic event data to remove personal content and identifying fields before forwarding it. These services are not used to upload your session notes, messages, contacts, photos, or videos.
Sharing is optional. You can decline and continue using NJH, or manage analytics and crash diagnostics separately in Settings → Privacy.
Purchases and NJH Plus
NJH Plus subscriptions purchased through the iOS app are processed by Apple.
NJH and our subscription-management provider receive information necessary to determine your subscription and entitlement status, but we do not receive your payment card or bank-account information.
Deleting your NJH account does not automatically cancel an active App Store subscription. You can manage or cancel App Store subscriptions through your Apple account settings.
Data Storage and International Processing
NJH uses third-party infrastructure, including Supabase and cloud storage providers, to store and process app data.
Your information may be processed or stored in the United States or other jurisdictions where our service providers operate. Information processed in another jurisdiction may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction.
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. However, no online service or storage system can guarantee absolute security.
Data Retention and Account Deletion
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide NJH, maintain your account, meet legitimate operational needs, and comply with legal obligations.
You can initiate account deletion from the Delete Account option in the app’s Settings screen or contact us at hobbyme@notjustahobby.com.
When account deletion is initiated, your account enters a 30-day recovery period. You can sign back in during that period to recover your account.
If you do not recover the account, your account and associated personal information and user-created content will be permanently deleted after the recovery period, except for information we are required or permitted by law to retain.
Your Choices and Privacy Rights
You can choose whether to grant optional permissions such as access to contacts and notifications. These permissions can also be changed through your device settings.
You may contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, or to ask questions or raise concerns about how your information is handled.
Some information is necessary to provide core NJH functionality. If you choose not to provide it, certain features may not be available.
Children’s Privacy
NJH is not intended for children under 13.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as NJH changes or as legal and operational requirements evolve.
When we make changes, we will post the updated policy and revise the effective date above.
