Maker Spaces
The hub for makers and builders
No matter your flavor of making, maker spaces exist as a place to congregate. Whether you want to share your work for feedback or learn from others, you’ll find an array of multi-disciplinary makers in the vicinity.
If you’re not ready to call yourself a maker, that’s okay too! These are warm spaces to help you get that curious part of your mind and body going. They offer tools and knowledge to kick start your adventure — big tip though, it’s best if you come with a couple of interests.
Tools and Materials
-
From spare electronics to a full wood shop, maker spaces can offer an array of tools and materials you don’t have at home.
For large equipment, you’ll likely need to be certified by the maker space’s team.
Some materials may need to be purchased but this is rarely for profit, merely to replenish stock for other makers.
Member Access
-
Most maker spaces operate on a membership. This gives you full access to space outside public hours so you can make whenever best fits your schedule.
Visit during a public night and ask how membership works!
Classes and Events
-
Makers love sharing knowledge so you’ll often find classes hosted by fellow makers. Many of these spaces also host visiting teachers where you can learn more about specific disciplines.
And they’re community hubs! You’ll find fun events where members share their work and hang out.
Build what you want.
Learn a new way to build.

NYC Resistor
Year

Entrance - Resistor has a unique entrance due to it’s location in New York City. After you buzz the front and are let in by a member, you’ll be led to an old school elevator that takes you up.
Main Area - A central hub around a long table where you can bring your projects and tools to do your craft. You’ll find adequate charging and some couches too. Not shown is a sewing / drawing area.
Electronics / event space - More movable table space and plenty of materials for electronics. Here, the electronics are free to use as needed. Be respectful of what’s available and take only what you need.
Woodshop - A space for all things related to woodworking. You will need a member to monitor your activities here due to safety concerns, but you can ask anyone who is around and they’ll gladly help.
